An invitation to participate in a programme of celebratory events and festivals highlighting the importance of Active Ageing and physical activity for older people.
From July 2010 the BHF National Centre is leading a programme of Active Ageing events with the purpose of:
* Providing a national and local profile to celebrate and promote the concept of Active Ageing
* Providing support for local Active Ageing events and programmes
* Stimulating debate and policy on active ageing
to ensure that older people are included in events designed to leave a health and physical activity legacy for the 2012 Olympic Games, the 2012 World Congress on Active Ageing and other high profile physical activity and sporting events.
In 2010, the BHF NC will be working with a variety of partners to promote Active Ageing. For example, under the Full of Life banner, the government and other groups will be supporting UK Older People’s Day, which takes place on 1st October to coincide with the UN International Day of Older Persons. This year the theme is “getting and staying active in later life”. We are pleased to announce that the DWP have decided to remain with the same theme in 2011.
